Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and then relocated to Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired people to travel to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated it was because John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the very first Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. Denver has become the image of Colorado for many people across the globe. In my journeys, you encounter someone on the other side of the world someone of New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first thing out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist after working with small folk groups. The track was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first time he heard early versions that the song was going to be an instant success. Danoff recorded the song a couple of days after performing on stage in Washington D.C. before an audience that was very enthusiastic.
